The program called “Cash for Keys” was originally started by the Treasury Department in 2009 to give homeowners options for loan adjustments, mortgage loan forgiveness, or refinancing. By giving assisting the lenders with this program, the Treasury Department is attempting to help boost the economy by pre-empting the finalization of the foreclosure process.

This process does not guarantee that programs will be available to you, but is a preliminary process which evaluates the potential. You may be able to check directly with your lender as well to see if you qualify.
